Activating and Configuring Database Mail in MS SQL Server Express Edition

Author: DNN Chicago

Do you know Database Mail? Those who administer an MS SQL Server apart from the Express Edition might know it, and there is a nice interface to configure it in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS). But this interface is missing in the Express Edition. The reason for that is that the SQL Server Agent Services are not present in this edition, which does not let us configure maintainence tasks or Database Mail.
These services use the MSDB database, and this database is installed as one of the system databases, even in SQL Server Express Edition. With a few SQL statements we can activate and configure Database Mail, and make use of this feature.

Strategy: DNN Platform Issue Management, Milestones and Roadmap

Author: DNN Chicago

DNN 9.7.0 was slated as the next big release on our roadmap.  Plans included a new Resource Manager for managing digital assets.  While we were still working on the new Resource Manager and marching towards the 9.7.0 release, we received a nice mix of bug fixes and new features as pull requests.  And since we were aiming for a minor release, we did not separate bug fixes from new features.

If you've been watching the journey of Hotcakes Commerce over the years at all, you know that it has a very interesting past.  It began as a different platform altogether. Upgrading DNN and Persona Bar DLL Fun

Author: DNN Chicago

Recently I was upgrading a DNN site that was on version 7.4.2. My target was the latest release, which at the time of this writing is version 9.6.1. I have successfully upgraded many DNN sites in the pasts, but this upgrade was through a few different major and minor versions and involved some in-depth investigation. I wanted to document my learnings to share them with the DNN Community in the case that they may be helpful to someone in the future.
